Hormonal acne is inevitable. Some people might already know that hormone also plays big roles in the formation of acnes. But how is that so?

Hormonal Acne

Acne is caused by the pores, where the oil gland had to secrete its sebum, are clogged with dirt or dead skin cells, causing inflammation. So what does hormone have to do with this?

Hormone is the one responsible for the maturation and the secreting activity of the oil glands in our skin. The amount of sebum secreted by the glands is controlled by the hormone. Unbalance hormone will trigger the acne outbreak.

Testosterone is one of the many hormones that will cause acne outbreak if becoming unbalanced. During puberty, pregnancy, and adolescent, the testosterone in our body becoming unbalanced, causes mood swing, emotional, and acne outbreak.

Other hormone that causes acne outbreak is androgens. It is male hormone that existed in both sexes. This is the main hormone behind hormonal acne. This acne is mostly seen in women during their menstruation period. This is because during this, women hormones are unbalanced. Beside emotional and mood swing, acne is one of PMS symptoms appeared in women during this period every month. Other than menstruation, pregnancy and menopause could also become potential hormonal acne period.

Treating hormonal acne is not that different from treating the other ordinary acne, since the things that is emphasized by the term of hormonal acne is that this acne is caused by hormone. The symptoms and the appearance of the acnes are the same. Treating hormonal acne should be more focused in balancing the hormone so acne outbreak would not be caused by hormone imbalance.

So now, here are several hormonal acne treatments for you to deal with the seasonal skin infection:

-       The usual thing as acne treatment. Clean your face; keep it from being too oily or too dry. Do not forget to wash out the makeup you wear whenever you are going to sleep. When we sleep, our hormone commands the oil glands in our skin to secrete sebum to keep out face moisture. If we did not wash out the makeup we wear, the pores will be clogged and sebum could not get out. This might trigger infection and hormonal acne.

-     Because hormonal acne is affected by hormone secretion, try to keep your face clean during the time when your hormone is unbalanced such as in women, while you are in menstruation period, menopause, and pregnancy.

-     Taking medication to balance your hormone is also a way of treating hormonal acne. Hormone disorder will cause acne outbreak so you have to be careful.

-     Hormone therapy could also be undertaken if your case of acne is already a severe one where you will have massive acne outbreak whenever you have unbalanced hormone. However, some side effect might follow this Hormonal therapy such as nausea and vomiting, similar reaction when your body reacted badly to birth-control pill.

It needs to be noted that hormonal therapy mostly worked for women in their 20s to 30s.

-     Your diet also affects the balance of your mood. Eating too much junk food will disturb your nature of hormone secretion. To balance out your hormone, consume lots of fresh vegetables and fruits, and eat less junk food. Oily skin, which is a great attraction for acnes, are also affected by what you eat. If you eat lots of oily food, your skin will become oily too.

Those are treatments that you could take. Make sure that you also contacted a doctor if you think your hormonal acne is already severe.
